Gombe State has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China’s 18th Engineering Bureau Group to develop a 100-megawatt solar energy project.

This initiative is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to enhance local power generation and reduce reliance on the national grid.

Formalization of the Agreement

The agreement was formalized following a series of meetings between GGombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya and senior executives from the Chinese engineering firm.

During the signing ceremony, the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Sanusi Ahmad Pindiga, represented Gombe State, while Group Managing Director Wan Lian Yu signed on behalf of the China Railway 18th Bureau Group.

Governor Yahaya’s Vision for Sustainable Energy

In his address at the signing ceremony, Governor Yahaya highlighted the importance of local energy generation for economic growth and mitigating the effects of frequent blackouts. “This MoU is a major step towards reliable electricity for Gombe residents. We are building the foundation for sustainable energy that will drive investments, create jobs, and bring prosperity,” he stated.

The governor also noted that the project will soon move into the contract and implementation phases, emphasizing the significance of the recently enacted Electricity Act, which empowers states to generate, distribute, and sell power independently.

A Commitment to Eco-Friendly Energy

Governor Yahaya underscored the strategic importance of the partnership, stating, “This collaboration with China Railway 18th Bureau underscores our commitment to eco-friendly energy and economic resilience. Solar power will soon provide Gombe with a stable and sustainable energy source to meet our growing demands.”

Confidence from the Chinese Partner

Mr. Xue Dewen, General Manager of China Railway 18th Bureau Group, expressed optimism about the project, commending Governor Yahaya’s progressive energy initiatives. “Our team is fully prepared to deliver a high-quality solar solution that aligns with Gombe’s vision for energy autonomy and economic growth,” he assured.

As Gombe State embarks on this significant solar energy project, the focus remains on fostering local energy independence and stimulating economic development through sustainable practices.
