All Ears on Adekunle Gold: New Album “Fuji” Redefines Lagos Sound

The Nigerian superstar has officially dropped his highly anticipated sixth studio album, “Fuji” — a 15-track collection rooted in Yoruba oral music traditions and designed to be experienced from start to finish.

“Guys, all I ask is this: listen in order, no skips. Whether you know the songs or not, trust the sequence. It’s a journey, an experience you can only feel if you go from start to finish,” AG wrote to fans as the album went live.

Ahead of the release, Gold teased listeners with singles including “Obimo,” “Coco Money,” “Bobo” featuring Lojay and Shoday, and “Believe.” But the full project, now unveiled, showcases his most personal exploration of sound yet.

In a conversation with Apple Music, Gold explained the layered meaning behind the album title. While “Fuji” first began as an acronym — Finding Uncharted Journeys Inside — it also reflects the genre that has shaped him since childhood.

“Even if I sing R&B, I sound fuji,” he said. “Fuji is just the sound of Lagos. I grew up on it — at every party, every event. It’s ingrained in me.”

From the pulsating confidence of “Big Fish” to the reflective tones of “Many People,” and the intimate love notes of “My Love Is the Same” and “Believe,” Adekunle Gold leans into storytelling while celebrating the sounds of home.

For the singer, the project is as much about honoring heritage as it is about pushing music forward.

“I love my culture, I love my traditions and heritage. I will always uphold it,” he affirmed. “As Africans, we all have a duty to show our culture. I will never stop doing that.”

Since breaking through in 2015 with “Sade,” Adekunle Gold has reinvented himself with each project — from the stripped-down soul of Gold to the pop experiments of Tequila Ever After. With Fuji, he returns to the sound that has always been quietly at the center of his artistry.

So, the rule is simple: headphones on, play button pressed, and no skips. Adekunle Gold’s “Fuji” isn’t just an album — it’s an experience.
